Politician Scenario

Predict how this event will be covered by television, radio, print, and internet.

This event will be covered from different perspectives or angles (which depends on who the writer or the publisher supports) especially in the internet where everyone can easily broadcast and share information. In television, the event will be presented with both audio and visuals which are a great help for viewers. Television reporters may interview the politician himself, policemen, and the supporters. In radio, recording the event itself can cause confusion to the listeners as it may not be clear on who are the people present at the event. Radio broadcasting also requires carefully narrating the event. In print, as it takes time to write articles and release it from a printing house, the event may not be fresh and new, but readers can ensure that the details are accurate and based on facts.

How are the presentation of facts may vary from medium to medium?

Television uses both visual and audio aids for presentation of facts but only the big companies (ABS-CBN, GMA, etc.) can control what facts to show, the audience can only watch and listen. In radio, however, only the audio is used for presentation of facts, and sometimes the listeners can call to some radio stations to give song suggestions and share some of their stories. In print, only the visuals are used to convey information (in which people need to be literate to understand the articles). But in the internet, with its fast connections, both audio and visuals are used for presentation of facts. Moreover, the audience can easily share and comment to these facts.

How are the codes and conventions vary from medium to medium?

As these media use different ways to present information, codes and conventions are also different. In television, technical codes such as sound, lighting, and angles of pictures can convey different meanings to viewers. In radio, the most commonly used codes are sound, and time check. In print, readers are guided by page numbers, where the articles continue from a different page. In the internet, share, react, like, dislike buttons are codes that help users to share their opinion on the information presented.

How much of these differences will be based on the unique characteristics of the medium?

Since there a lot of ways that a medium present information, there will be a lot of differences that are based on the unique characteristics of the medium. Some ways like visual aid is a lot efficient than audio. From these different ways of presenting information, people may derive different meanings.
